INDIANAPOLIS -- Five Indiana University scholars and researchers have been promoted to distinguished professor, the highest academic rank within the institution. The appointments were approved today by the IU Board of Trustees at their meeting on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

Evans-Molina named Ritchey Scholar

Carmella Evans-Molina, associate professor of medicine in the division of endocrinology was named the J.O. Ritchey, M.D. Scholar of Medicine. Evans-Molina also serves as the associate director of development of the Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Research. Earlier this year, she was awarded with a Research Frontier Trailblazers Award for her impressive research work to date. The honor is named for Dr. James O. Ritchey, who spent 68 years affiliated with the IU School of Medicine, including a stint as chair of the Department of Medicine.

Geriatrics programs earn VA recognition

The Indiana University Geriatrics Program’s Acute Care for Elders (ACE) consultation team and Geriatric Resources for Assessment and Care of Elders (GRACE) program have been cited as examples of veteran-centered models of care that can be effective in the care of this population. The citations were included in a report submitted by the Veterans Health Administration’s Inpatient Care for Veterans with Complex Cognitive, Mental Health, and Medical Needs Task Force.

Liangpunsakul awarded research funding

LiangpunsakulSuthat Liangpunsakul, MD, associate professor of medicine in gastroenterology, received nearly $3.5 million in funding to study alcoholic liver disease and excessive alcohol use from the NIH. Read more
