Dr. Bourgi then completed his infectious diseases and HIV fellowship at Vanderbilt University and joined the faculty at IU in 2018.

His research focuses on studying the metabolic complications of HIV and long-term use of antiretroviral therapy through observational cohort studies of adults with HIV. He is also interested in studying the association between some of the antiretroviral therapies with weight gain and investigating the underlying mechanism. Additionally, Dr. Bourgi’s research focuses on understanding the association between HIV-related mental health and inflammation, cardiovascular and metabolic outcomes in persons with HIV.
